I've clearly gone too deeply into the world of craft blogs where "pinny" is short for "pinafore". (I suspect it's a UK thing).
No snarky comments are necessary about gym class. JR knows perfectly well that I paid not one iota of attention to anything ever said in a gym class and am proud of it. ;)
I get it now. In that case, congratulations on a lovely pinafore. Maybe you'd consider accessorizing it with a stylish mesh pinney?
I managed to get through nearly my entire senior year without participating in a gym class. Our PE instructor kind of benignly wrote me off as never-gonna-be-athletic after the first week. My slacker friends and I were dispatched to the weight room (never used for anything but storage, and conveniently lined with wrestling mats for our lounging comfort), where we'd hang out for the entire period drinking soda and laughing our butts off.
We, alas, never had such an understanding PE instructor. Instead we were, sadly, saddled with overweight women who probably couldn't run a block if their life depended on it, and who apparently decided to work out their frustration at their own body issues (or other "sorts" of frustration, wink wink, nudge, nudge, say no more) by attempting to force others to embrace team playing by pairing them against a pack of wolves armed with field hockey sticks.
And although Michaela was hoping I'd support her use of the word "pinny", I was forced to disappoint her-- because "pinny" did indeed only call to mind those mesh vest-like monstrosities of gym classes past.
And don't for get Dan Zrust--former and now very overweight drag car racer--who would sit in the office of our circa 1940 locker-room where the gym teacher's office had a huge window looking out into the boys locker-room (like a foreman's office in a factory looking out onto the factory floor). He would sit at his desk with a newspaper and a three foot wide box of donuts and proceed to eat them one by one.
Ugh, we had one of those big windows from the office to the locker room too. In retrospect, through 21st-century eyes, it seems just a little more creepy.
Not that I ever took showers in the locker room, of course. We nerdlets kept a huge stock of different flavors of deodorant in our lockers and stayed exposed as briefly as possible. Most of us could change clothes in ten seconds or less.
OK, you're bringing back way too many memories. How's this for creepy, and something that would NEVER be considered today... until such time as our class rebelled and presented a signed petition to the school to halt the practice, it was policy for us to have to line up, clad only in towel, and pass by the gym teacher posted as sentinel in the locker room so that she could verify (by the fact that our skin was wet) that we had indeed taken a shower.

And we, just to add to the creepiness, had to line up for jockstrap check. I will let you imagine the details.
Shudder.
