(Can you tell by all my blogging I have a HUGE stack o' papers to grade?)
After you all left the other day, Anthony and I just relaxed and watched TV while I read The Times. He stumbled upon a film on VH1 about the making of Dark Side of the Moon and I kept asking questions about everything "Who's that guy?" "Is that video clip from The Wall?" "Who's the drummer again?" The fact that I was no good viewing companion--the least equipped of the five of us to appreciate the film--was really emphasized by the fact that you guys had just left . . .

Wasn't John Denver Floyd's drummer?
No, no... Floyd was the guitarist for the Muppet band, Electric Mayhem. I think they backed John Denver up on a Christmas album or something. Sheesh, get your 70's iconography straight, willya?
LOL. Jennie, I had a moment about a year or so ago when I just HAD to know the names of all the members of the post-Syd Barrett leaving - pre-Roger Waters bailing formation of the band. (This was probably induced by watching the DVD of Pink Floyd at Pompeii...I had never realized that David Gilmour was so HOT!)
Sensing blood in the water, S put together a mix called "Floyd Education," which included everything from "Arnold Lane" to "Echos" to "We Don't Need No Education" and maybe even stuff from The Dumbing Bell. This cleverly disguised tool of brainwashing allowed him to quiz me on the name of each song, name and year of the album, members of the band for that album, and whether it is considered "good" or "bad" Floyd, and whether a song contains any "Animal" chords...
My conclusion from all this?
1. Why didn't I have a Floyd phase earlier in my life??
2. David Gilmour was REALLY REALLY hot when he was young
3. Dark Side of the Moon really is an almost perfect album
It doesn't matter how, or how long, it takes you to get there. All that matters is that you do. :)
Anybody else see that film "Children of Men" last year? Aside from being an amazing (though VERY violent and taxing) film, it contains probably the best Pink Floyd sight gag ever. I'm sure a trip to YouTube or Google will yield the image.
