Let's hear it for Swedish Design
Perhaps because we missed out on JR/A's move, M & I did a bit of moving of our own. Actually, July has been declared "home month" and we are using our three day weekend to dive into the many, lingering home projects. That includes painting the front room (marigold milk paint), and replacing the mismatched bookshelves in the front room with a wall of matching units (the painting will happen another weekend this month). And, best of all, we finally have "doors" on our closets. Not quite doors, but lovely, sliding panels of fabric from Ikea. A visual:

Gorgeous! Can we see the marigold paint too?
Oh wait... you haven't painted it yet. Looking forward to seeing the results when it's done!
Love the panels, cool fabric!
Anthony/JR-- you have to post some pics of the new place so that M. & S. can see the cool woodwork!
Will do...
Yes, I'm sorry that we missed out on helping you move and would love to see photos of the new place! I hope the "settling in" process is going well. What is this I hear about a turret??
Well, it's really more of a semi-octagonal multi-windowed nooklike structure. If we were on the top floor, I'd call it a turret, but in this case it's more of a quasi-turret. Maybe even a crypto-turret?
I think I am developing Turret Syndrome.
Is that the disorder where one makes uncontrollable and horrible puns?
Kla, I always think of you when I see Marimekko; despite your Irish roots, you have a distinctly Scandinavian aesthetic. The closet doors are fab--another winning choice for the J.C. condo.
I think the Scandinavian design came from Aunty Betty and Uncle Bob. They spent a year in Finland in the '70s and had that whole modern architecture/seventies/Scandinavian aesthetic going on at their house. I absolutely adored it -- so different every house I had ever seen. Who knew one's family could have shag carpet that looked like a Twister game?? (Then again, people may have said about my living room growing up, "who knew that one could have a chair covered with green embroidered liberty eagle motifs?" It wasn't as bad as it sounds, really...)
Stephen's parents have a very Scandinavian design aesthetic as well -- they have the BEST Marimekko green and blue rug that I've been coveting for years (Stephen, it would look GREAT in the front room, wouldn't it? ;)
And I always enjoyed pointing out to my mother, when she raised the question of when are Michaela and I going to get married (obviously, a question from the past), to the several couples on the Swedish side of our Family tree that were never married.
